one  story

One Story is a 12-week leadership program which aims to help individuals better understand themselves, through story and play, to better present themselves in the world.

The program focuses on the power of storytelling and play, which we believe is an effective tool to foster richer human relationships. Individuals learn that every person has a “story”, and learning to tell or express this effectively, especially through play,  can mean a great difference in the quality of both personal and professional communication / presentation.

At the end of the program, a collection of participants' stories is developed into a performing arts piece, which is delivered / performed by the participants, in the African Village at Masoka Festival.

The program is open to adults only (age 18+). We especially encourage mature men and women to apply.

We currently offer two community programs, which cater for individuals, community groups, and artists / performers. Both these programs are directly linked to the festival of Masoka Villagethese programs are designed to prepare participants for their role in the village, at the festival.

Community Programs

Community is at the very core of who we are, and what we do. We work closely with the local community, on different levels, to celebrate the power of play, in exploring and celebrating the story of the individual, the group, the community. We do what we do, especially to build on community.

Our community programs, therefore, allow us to use traditional African theatre as a medium to bring together people from different walks of life, in story and play. Every year, we work closely with the local community, at different levels, to transform a city parkland into a very live African village.

We work with individuals from an African background to explore and tell the African Australian story; we work with local businesses to design and decorate the African village; we work with local African artists and community groups to bring the village to life. The wider community is then invited to enjoy the fruits of our combined efforts, for an entire week!

There is food, there is music, there is community!
